Bush: Climate bill would raise gasoline prices

Playing the gasoline card, the Bush administration on Monday predicted that a climate change bill before lawmakers this week could raise pump prices by as much as 53 cents a gallon by 2030.

- Yes but you're living in the land of unlimited capitalism. You protect Congressmen and other politicians who support deregulation and this is what you get. With all of the bailouts airlines received in the previous 9 years, you'd think we would have a greater say.

- I agree. Flying was considered a luxury. I think it should remain a luxury. As a family we drove from PA to Canada, Florida, NC, NJ, DE, VA, etc. It makes for more memories. need I repeat, flying should remain a luxury item.

- I'm beginning to think that these charges are a product of industry associations. These trade associations, etc., bring competitors together and create agreements to end price wars and such.

- Overuse of medical care is just like gluttony. You wonder why we have antibiotic resistant bacteria and so many allergies and all sorts of weird stuff creeping up on us. It may be because we go to the ER for every little problem because we can't wait for a doctor's appointment.

- Jackie, I had a medical emergency in Canada. It has been a relatively good experience (medically speaking). I crashed my bicycle go way too fast for where I was going. Anyways, I give kudos to North Bay Emergency Room (Ontario). I did wait a few minutes on a stretcher to rest.

I know you're not getting 50 mpg on your Prius. If you have actually checked it and calculated your mileage, I think you'll find it is below what the digital display says it is. My neighbor was bragging about his Prius getting 47 to 50 mpg, so I had him give me his gas reciepts for a month and it calculated out to 39 mpg. All of the car magazines that have tested them show about 40 mpg or less on average. If you prefer to send the profits from your purchases overseas, then don't blame the automakers when the U.S. has to turn to Japan, Korea or China for manufacturing help when the next terrorist attack comes. We already gave away our steel and electronics capacity.
